Sometimes it's easy to take for granted the things that we have in our lives, until the 'it'll never happen to me'...does. 1 in 20 young men will die from Testicular Cancer. Studio Partner Wes Cotter shares his story on how cancer impacts everybody involved...
"When I was 20 life was all about my mates and surfing. On Friday afternoons, we would pack our cars with our surfboards and head down to Victor or Yorkes for a weekend of surfing and mischief. However, all our lives changed suddenly when one of my mates was diagnosed with testicular cancer.
Life became real.
We rallied around him, dropping him off and picking him up from chemotherapy appointments, trying to keep his life as normal as possible. His spirit and outlook on life was admirable. We still went surfing and he would manage a few waves before the effects of the cancer treatment would wear him down.
Eventually, he won his battle with cancer but it taught us all a valuable lesson - life is precious. Look after your bodies, be aware of any changes, get check ups and hassle your mates to do the same."
