Sarah is one of our youngest students - attending classes at the Aleenta BARRE Mermaid Waters Studio. With aspirations to become a choreographer, Sarah signed up to barre for additional training and strengthening in order for her to achieve her ambitions - recently auditioning for The Queensland Academy of Creative Industries.
1. Tell us a bit about yourself…
My name is Sarah Evans and I am 14yrs old. My passion is dancing and I am currently in Year 9 at Palm Beach Currumbin State High School, where I am in the Dance Excellence Program. I love to spend time with my family and friends as I’m sure everyone does. In April, this year (2016) I did The World’s Greatest Shave for the Leukaemia Foundation and raised nearly $2,000. So at the moment I’m looking forward to seeing how my hair grows back!! I would say that I am an introvert but also an extrovert. I can be quiet and a little shy when you first meet me, but once I am comfortable you’ll never get a word in!!
2. Describe yourself in 5 words...
FUN, LOUD, BUBBLY, FRIENDLY, HAPPY
3. You do a lot of different dance and movement activities what motivates you to do this?
I enjoy pushing my limits so dancing and other movement based activities work well for me. I am also a very energetic person so I love to use that energy to do something that I love.
4. You are a Gold Coast girl - what are your top 5 things to do on the Gold Coast?STAND UP PADDLE BOARDING, JET SKIING WITH THE FAMILY, BEACH, THEME PARKS, GELATO AT BURLIEGH TROPICANA
5. What are you training for and hope to do in the future?
At the moment, I have been training for a special audition for a school next year. As I love to dance and more specifically choreograph, I recently auditioned for The Queensland Academy of Creative Industries. This school will help me achieve my goal of being a choreographer and further extend my passion for dance and even possibly theatre.
If I ever decide to change my career path, I would most like to be a teacher as I love watching people learn and grow from what I have taught them.
6. What is your favourite Aleenta barre class?
My favourite Aleenta BARRE classes are the Yoga Barre and also the Barre Burn classes. The Yoga Barre is so relaxing, yet still a good challenge and the Barre Burn class is so satisfying as you can really feel that you’re working hard and pushing your body to its limit.
7. How would you describe Barre to a friend at school who had never heard of Barre?
The start of the class is great as you set your intention for the class, that way you know what you are striving for and it sits there in your mind the whole time. The Barre class is a tough, toning body workout that uses small movements to activate different muscles/parts of the body. It’s a very challenging yet fun experience. The end of each class is my favourite as there is sort of a meditation section where you get to reflect on the class and what you have just achieved as well as clear your mind.
UPDATE: Sarah was successful in her audition to The Queensland Academy of Creative Industries. Congratulations on such an AWESOME achievement! xx
