We spoke to one of our Mermaid Waters barre lovers and mother of two, Kylie, about her own experiences after having kids. Wanting to share her story about those 'awkward moments' and the difficulty of being active and exercise to her full potential - due to having a weak Pelvic Floor post children, a common and often unspoken topic among women. After discovering Aleenta BARRE Kylie has been an avid attendee coming regularly, why? because thanks to barre, Kylie has been able to strengthen her Pelvic Floor and get back into her active lifestyle with her kids.
1) Tell us little about yourself...
Hi, I'm Kylie and I am a 41 year-old mum of 2 kids – a son 9 and a daughter 6. Before kids I spent 11 years as a flight attendant, international and domestic, and was also a PT and now I am a Dermal Therapist / Laser Technician. On a personal note, around my ‘mummy duties’, which never seem to end, I like to keep active and engage in sport whenever time permits.
2) How long have you been coming to Aleenta BARRE and what do you like about it?
I started at Aleenta about 4 weeks after the Gold Coast studio opened and was introduced by friends. I like it because it looked easy …. but isn’t. It is hard. Not only is it physical conditioning, but I also enjoy the mental ‘peace’ that Aleenta brings. Unlike the gym, it seems more holistic. I think the balance between the 2 makes me a better mum.
Why Aleenta BARRE?
I like the message Aleenta BARRE sends - that is reconnecting your mind while toning and strengthening your body using different techniques such as Pilates, yoga and barre. I also like the relaxed setting and the warmth of the Aleenta BARRE community and the supportive Tenders.
What is the Lynda Saunders story?
I am originally a Sydney girl, born and breed. I left Sydney at 26 and moved to Adelaide with my husband who is an Adelaide boy. I have also lived in Melbourne for 7 years, but having lived in Adelaide for 15 years I call Adelaide home now with my husband and son.
I have a background in healthcare. I studied laboratory science and also have a Masters in Health Management. My career thus far has focused on health research, working and managing laboratories. I like keeping fit and healthy, but as I am getting older I feel it is important to improve core strength and keep flexible which lead me to attend the Aleenta BARRE classes. I have certainly improved in flexibility since my first class and enjoy the hour it does for not only for my body but my mind.
What can we expect to see at Aleenta BARRE Burnside Village?
A continued focus on the Aleenta BARRE mantra and having great tenders instructing. Ensuring a quiet and positive energy studio, a place where you can focus on your mind, your body and your health. More classes on the weekend and some special promotional/ social events are planned this year.
If you've contacted us on firstname.lastname@example.org or given HO a call then its more than likely you've spoken with the gorgeous Aleenta BARRE HUB Admin girls! Located at the Rundle Street Studio Klara and Sarah work hard responding to everybody's enquires and taking care of all things Aleenta.
1. Tell us a bit more about you…
KLARA: I was previously in the retail word when about 5 years ago decided to take a month trip to Thailand and pursue my love and passion for Yoga completing my teacher training in paradise and then when I returned changed into the health and fitness industry. I’ve been with Aleenta BARRE since we opened the first studio in 2014 as a Tender and this developed my love for barre. During the last year I have been on maternity leave after having my first baby and have now returned just to the office so I can keep some life balance with my little family.
SARAH: I recently completed a Health Science degree majoring in Nutrition, Psychology and Exercise Science, and have a passion for anything health and wellness. I love Nutrition and am a massive foodie! I have danced most of my life, starting at the age of 4 and have done ballet, jazz/modern and contemporary! It is only recently I have discovered my love for yoga and after experiencing the wide array of benefits it offers, I make it a priority to schedule in yoga practice either at a class, or by practicing at home.
2. What do you love most about being a part of the Aleenta BARRE HUB?
KLARA: I missed the Aleenta BARRE students when I was on leave and I love connecting with them all again. Friendly vibe in the HUB office is definitely uplifting.
SARAH: It’s a great work environment to be a part of – the staff are lovely, supportive and bubbly!
When the weather decides to turn up the temp, you may find yourself struggling to beat that intense heat. More often than not all you need is to add some extra H2O in order to survive the day.
Here at the Aleenta BARRE HUB, we’re adding some extra zing to get the most out of our water intake. In the heat it can often feel like a chore to get your daily dose, especially on those dry days when you’re working up a sweat, you need to go beyond your 8 glasses a day. So, why not make it something desirable, something that you actually crave that satisfying taste for?
We’re not talking about the Austin Powers kind but the probiotic kind, Mojo Kombucha. It may be familiar to some regular tenders as it’s often our go to of choice when supplying the after class taste testers, but if you haven’t heard, listen up!
Our personal favourite? Tumeric Blend with a hint of Carrot and Ginger, a triple threat. Tumeric helps inflammation of the body, ginger to release the body of any nausea or up set tummies and carrot to keep our eyesight healthy. All that as well as getting our daily dose of probiotic!
Keep a look out for your teaser taste this month after class.

In September last year, Emerald approached the team at Aleenta BARRE Mermaid Waters about organising a 6 week personal challenge in which the team would help to keep her accountable. She had a determination in her eyes and was committed to making some life changes. Read on to here how she went...
1. What instigated the changes you have experienced?
I have to be honest and say I was having a pretty tough time with depression prior to deciding to make changes in my life. I have tried several different styles of exercise over the last few years, and nothing really got me motivated. I danced from 4 - 17 years of age and I felt it was a great way to kick start a new healthy behaviour in my life..
So I signed up :)
2. Prior to Aleenta BARRE what exercise were you doing?
Walking - irregularly.
3. What results did you see?
The first few weeks I was determined and stuck to my fitness goal. I saw Aleenta BARRE starting to improve my physical strength - but the more unexpected result and main change for me was an overall energetic enthusiasm for life returned. I can see now in hindsight that I had been feeling so disconnected from my body and my energy levels were low.
This increased enthusiasm brought me renewed energy to do simple things - like play with my son at the park. It also positively affected my intimacy and sex life with my partner. I was feeling more confident and this flowed onto all areas of my life. I am studying Beauty Therapy and my new healthy ways also improved my focus when studying.
Exercising consistently helped me recharge. I would rate my overall feelings towards life prior as 5/10 and now I feel 10/10 which has made a huge difference as I am energised and on track :)
You may have seen Kerry’s rocking pink hair around the Aleenta BARRE Studio early in the mornings before she heads off to work as the owner of 'Just Skyn Beauty Treatment Clinic' in Broadbeach Waters. We spoke with Kerry about her skin tips & tricks...
Lillian Gross is a key player in the new Women's football league with the Broadbeach Cats. Aleenta BARRE has had Lillian and the Cats attending weekly sessions during pre-season to work on muscle and core strength. Here Lillian tells us about her journey into football and barre...
Tell us a little about yourself and how you got into women’s AFL?
I am 20 years old, born and raised on the GC although I have moved around a fair bit. My dad's side of the family is where my love of AFL came from as he was born in Victoria and we are all big Collingwood fans. You could say my Grandma is my biggest inspiration when it comes to footy and I would love to do her proud - It's a dream of mine to play AFL professionally one day.
I've only been playing for about a year and a half now and when one of my friends told me that the Broadbeach Cats had a new women's team, I didn't give it a second thought. To be a foundation women's player at Broadbeach is an honour and being at such an amazing club only fuels the love I have for this sport.
What are your feelings about the first women’s offical national games this year?
Pure excitement! I have been watching AFL for many many years, and to have the Women's League stepping up, it's just amazing! Women's AFL is growing so much - It's honestly the start of a dream come true! My all time dream is to be running around the MCG in a Black and White Collingwood jumper, but if I was to make it to the Women's League I would honestly be happy in whatever colours they want me in... that's my dream and I would do anything to get there.
Why did you organise to do pre-season training at the Aleenta BARRE Mermaid Waters Studio?
I honestly never would have picked barre to be such a challenging activity. When Alicia told me that Abbey Holmes (AFLW Crows Player) was one of the Ambassadors for the Melbourne studio I thought I would try it out for myself. Let me tell you, I love it, the girls love it and it's very rewarding. I thought it would be good for the team to have a training night where we are able to find ourselves as a team but train individually, Aleenta BARRE handed us a great opportunity and we took it. 2017 is going to be a big season, so why not amp it up a bit in the pre season!

If your partner is of the fit and health conscious variety, we found a few treats and ideas that might make Valentine's a little different this year.

Ok, now we’re not recommending you buy a tin of protein powder for your partner and just leaving it at that! No. That’s weird.
Possibly one of the nicest Pea Protein powders the Aleenta BARRE HUB has come across, we think it’s sure to up the ante on your love dial by adding the Nourishing Protein Powder to the Healthy Zucchini Muffins recipe instead of cacao. With the addition of some final presentation flair; cut a little out of the top, filling it a with cream of your choice and popping on top a choc dipped strawberry will really amp up your Valentine’s Day brownie (or should we say muffin) points…
(got some seriously amazing skills in the kitchen? Check out this strawberry rose!)
300g Tin RRP $49
If you’re a stickler for the traditional; we couldn’t go past Pana Chocolate! Handmade, organic and comes in a scrumptious selection of flavours (that are a little more au naturel than the ol’ Willy Wonka’s crazy creations). Even the biggest chocolate fanatic will squeal in delight if presented with a single bar of Pana Chocolate.
However, if you’re aiming for more than a squeal, we think you should check out these fantastic Valentine’s day hamper.
